Welcome Everyone to our new home on the internet! I’m sure that you all have a lot of questions, but let me start with the basics first. My name’s Michael Stokes; and my role in Dreamcatcher Comics is a bit multi-faceted at the moment. But for simplicity’s sake, I am our Editor-in-chief, as well as primary writer for Black Rose: Origins(More on that another time). I wanted to use this letter as an introduction to who we are, how we started, as well as provide more information on our plans moving forward. I’m gonna try to keep this from being long winded… But hey, transparency is key to anything, especially for what we have in store.
Dreamcatcher Comics started it’s life in a FB group of comic and anime fans (Shoutout to M.A.D!) Myself and a few other aspiring writers had started posting stories in the group for fun. They ended up becoming popular, and the biggest question on everyone’s minds were “Hey, why not make comics out of these?”
I couldn’t really talk for anyone else(And I won’t try) but for me, I had a lot of fun creating the characters and building a budding universe(Pre-Dreamcatcher Comics Universe that is), but I wasn’t EXACTLY sure how it would turn out. Perhaps I would just keep it as a series of short stories, perhaps I’d turn it into a large graphic novel. Whatever the case may be, 2017, a bunch of got into a Facebook messenger group and started hammering out ideas for a new group of characters and stories. There was just one problem, we couldn’t decide on a name for the actual company! Eventually, we settled on Dreamcatcher Comics; and while some people may find it a bit awkward to name our company and a character the very same name, it isn’t like the other Big names haven’t done the same at some point…
Fast Forward to 2022, and we’re now, after many years of fights, blood, sweat, tears, several lines of written scripts, and concepts, we’re now introducing ourselves as a company full time! It’s an exciting and terrifying time for a lot of us here, but we don’t lack any enthusiasm and confidence in the world we wish to bring forth to you guys.
That being said…
Many of you are here for two reasons, either you’ve read Blood Makers #1(Which if you did, thank you so much and we would like to hear your thoughts on it!) or, you’ve seen us on FB or other forms of social media, and you’re interested in what we have in store next. So, let’s start with the simple stuff first. Yes. Blood Makers #2 is in development, and it will be out this summer.
But the other question you may have about Blood Makers as a whole is WHO exactly are these characters?! Well, I will let their primary writers speak for them in the upcoming weeks, so be on the lookout for when our “Characters” section goes live, and also their blog posts detailing Troublemaker and Rein.
Blood Makers aside, I’m also hard at work getting Black Rose Origins #1 finished, which will feature one of our leading ladies as she enters a new chapter in her chaotic life. Be on the lookout in April for her cover debut!
Now you may be asking “Is that it?”
Absolutely not! This website is far from finished for one(Stay tuned for our Characters Section, and other features we have planned!) and on top of that; I said this post was also to provide transparency. So let me put some statements out here first.
⦁ Dreamcatcher Comics IS Independent, and NOT a big money company: Which means our stories will take time to get out there, but we are beyond confident that people will find something exciting in each of them, enough to encourage us to keep pushing towards our goals, which is to hopefully some day be large enough to rival that of DC and Marvel
⦁ Dreamcatcher Comics ISN’T afraid to tackle ANY Subject: While we are very much into comic culture and we are aware of the low hanging fruit some companies like to use to tackle issues, our stories will never be compromised for the sake of them. Our approach is simple, if we can tell a great story, we will tell it, and we won’t compromise.
⦁ Dreamcatcher Comics IS a POC company: All of the founding members are People of Color, and we take pride in telling stories featuring people who come from all walks of life, including ours.
⦁ And lastly, Dreamcatcher Comics WILL, from time to time, put out crowdfunding campaigns, but at the moment we want to put our money where our mouth is. This is the nature of the indie industry, and we can’t forego it. But we hope that we make campaigns worth it for every backer.
Now, on behalf of myself and the rest of the Dreamcatcher Comics crew, we hope that you’ll come back to see the other visions we have captured!
